I had a little moment last night that made me a happy Steph. Thought I'd come on here and share!
I was watching earlier episodes from this season of SyFy's "FaceOff" - the makeup FX challenge show. There was this guy on there who was painting his alien creature's makeup, once it was all applied... First he put on a full layer of shiny gold. And then he put on some lighter strokes over the most prominent parts, in a blueish color.
I said out loud what I was thinking, which was that he really should've done that the other way around... Put the deeper color first, and then dry brush the metallic gold over top, to really make those two colors stand out well against each other. I may not know much about FX makeup, but I do think its safe to say I know a little bit about color application, especially when it comes to paint jobs... But I shrugged and thought well. Maybe that's just me.
Sure enough, when the guy's makeup job went to be judged, what was the first thing Ve Neill, an industry professional said? "Did you put the gold on first, or the blue?" And the guy says "The gold first." And Ve says "Well. That was your first mistake."
Dude I felt so cool. I was like holy crap... I might actually be a real artist.
lmao. It felt really good to hear my own artistic thoughts echoed by someone who'd made their name and livelihood in the art industry, you know?
To be fair, it was still a gorgeous makeup, in my opinion. I'm so inspired by FaceOff... love that show. Its actually where part of the inspiration for my original species, the Lijahns, came from.
And as soon as I can, I'm going to be making some new hair accessories inspired by some of the wild color combinations and forms and shapes and such that I've seen this season!
Anyways. Just thought I'd share.
